Lure of Changing Seasons…

The wilderness of Eastern Finland and the lakes close by offer wonderful opportunities for outdoor activities and various atmospheres year round. In the springtime, you can experience the freshness of nature that has just burst into blossom, the lengthening days and evenings full of light.

Island Loikansaari is well known for its extensive bird population. Spring is the best time for birdwatching. Here, you can see black grouses, wood grouses, swans and cranes, for example. The bank road leading to the island is excellent for hiking, biking and birdwatching.

In the summertime, everybody is in Savonlinna or at their summer cabin. The warm water lures you to take a dip and ride a boat on the waves of the blue Lake Saimaa. There are magnificent canoeing routes with narrow passages and rocky wilderness scenery close by. Sunbathing, barbequing and bathing in the sauna are the best holiday therapy for many. On a rainy day, you can drop by Savonlinna to study the shopping opportunities, sights and cultural events of the city and its surroundings.

In the autumn, you can relax by listening to the rain, spend idyllic evenings by the fireplace and admire the moonpath on the water. Autumn is the best time for fishing, and if you’re lucky, you may catch pike perch, pike, bream or trout or the smaller fishes: perch, roach or vendace. Hiking in the forests coloured by the autumn tint is a refreshing experience. There is excellent terrain for picking mushroom or berries right next to the cabins. The forests are full of blueberries and lingonberries as well as milk caps, russula and boletus mushroom just waiting for you to pick them.

With us, you can experience the genuine Finnish winter. The lakes are covered by thick ice, and the wilderness rests below a clean snow cover. The shining snow just invites you to ski, slalom, ice-skate and slide a sled. Those wishing for something more exciting may try snowshoeing or
snowmobiling. In the spring, the sunny days and sparkling snow beg you to come on the ice. It is wonderful to experience the wintry lake, the clean, snowy wilderness and the rocky capes exposed by the winter sun. In the wintertime, the most popular mode of fishing is ice-fishing, but you can also try fishing with a net.
